Shielded – Bald Eage
"Shielded" — Did you know that eagles have 3 eyelids! The outside two are the ones we usually see. On eagles, the bottom eyelid is bigger than the top eyelid, so they blink up instead of down. The third eyelid, an inner eyelid, is called the nictitating membrane. Look close at this eagle's eye. It almost looks metallic in this image I captured this week. I love the eagle's eye when open and piercing, but I thought this was a fascinating view with this "shield". Different!
